GRIEF AND LOSS THERAPY FOR WOMEN IN SEATTLE

Grief and loss support that’s actually supportive.

“Grief is not a problem to be solved; it’s an experience to be carried.”

Megan Devine

You probably feel like no one understands what you’re going through and you’re probably right. Grief is the natural response to losing something or someone we love. In a general sense, people get that, but our society at large doesn’t really understand what grief is and often times that leaves you feeling like you should “get over” your loss at some point, “move on” already. No one likes to see someone they love in pain and in attempts to comfort you, they’ve invalidated you and dismissed your experience.

Grief isn’t just feeling sad and missing your person. Grief is every day holding love for the person you’ve lost. Grief can affect your mind, body, and spirit and show up in your life in so many different ways. You might be feeling incredibly anxious and on edge, worried about everything and everyone all of the time. Functioning like you used to may be really challenging with a cloudy brain, tired body, and hurt heart. Maybe day-to-day life now feels meaningless and pointless, and you feel hopeless about your future.

I will be with you wherever you are.

Therapy after experiencing a loss can help you find some grounding.

Grief Therapy for Women | King County WA | Ojala Alliance | Angel Thomson LMFTA

No loss is the same. No experience of loss is the same. There is no one size fits all for navigating grief. This journey is yours, and there is no singular “right way” to go about it. Your way is the right way for you, I will be with you through it, every step of the way.

Choosing to talk about your loss is hard. It can be incredibly painful to relive moments, and it can be incredibly healing to relive moments. Ignoring your pain, ignoring your loss, pretending like it never happened has detrimental effects on your body and being.

Therapy with me is not about fixing you or fixing your grief. Grief cannot be fixed or solved. Therapy with me is about honoring the love you’re carrying for your person and finding ways to integrate your love and your loss into your life as you continue living.

You might want to talk about:

  • your person, who they are, what they mean to you.

  • how you and your life has been forever changed.

  • tending to all the physical and emotional effects that come with grief so that you can continue to nurture yourself.

  • strengthening your relationships so that you can be supported in loving and caring ways.

  • how to remain connected to your person and honor them as you move forward in your life.

FAQS

What others have wondered about therapy for grief and loss

  • During our first session, I will mainly just want to get to know you, your person, what you’re experiencing, and what you’re hoping for with therapy. After that, what we spend our time on each session is up to you. Some sessions you may want to focus on a particular experience with your person, your current experiences, memories, or whatever feels helpful or useful to you. Sometimes you might not know what to talk about and that’s okay.

  • As short or as long as you’d like to be. Navigating life after loss can be complicated and complex, it’s different for everyone.

  • 1) Schedule your free, no-obligation consultation. I will ask you some questions and you can ask me any questions to see if we'd be a good fit for working together. If we are, great! We’ll schedule your first session.

If not, no problem. I’ll refer you to another talented therapist in my network who can help.

    2) I’ll email you a link to your Client Portal where you can complete the intake paperwork before your first session.

    3) A few minutes before the start of your session, simply click the link in your reminder email or through your Client Portal. It will ask you to "check in" with your name and to enable video and microphone access. I will greet you shortly after.
